Marshfield Clinic provides financial support to Tri-County Council
"Funds we receive from area businesses like Marshfield Clinic help us with critical prevention and support programming as well as ongoing operational costs of the shelter," Shellie Holmes, executive director of the Tri-County Council, said in a press release. "Our agency provides advocacy assistance to more than 500 victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault each year. Advocacy includes, among other things: crisis counseling, support and information surrounding court processes, support groups, information and referral to other community resources, emergency transportation and help with restraining orders. We also have a 'safe home' that last year provided over 1,300 nights of shelter to women, children, men, elderly and disabled clients. In addition, we provide a 24-hour crisis hotline service."
"We live in a small and relatively peaceful community, so it is easy to assume these things don't happen here. The truth is it happens more frequently than we are often willing to admit," added Dr. Michael Schaars, medical chair, Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center. "The Clinic has a sense of community obligation to support programs like this council. They help to educate and shelter people in need and hopefully reduce incidence of domestic violence and sexual assault in our community."
