Short films that explore love, romance to be shown at Nicolet College Feb. 11
Nothing Short of Romantic will feature 11 short films on the subject, each ranging from only a few minutes long up to about 15 minutes, the college said in a press release.
"We wanted to show a broad range of perspectives," said Steven Shreier, who curated the show with fellow film enthusiast Tom Jerow. "Some people go into relationships and find something completely unexpected. Sometimes romance pops up where you least think you'll find it. The films cover a gamut."
Stories include that of the married couple in rural Spain who lived together in complete isolation for 45 years, a young boy's love for a puppy in a pet store, and the pairing of two milk jugs in the dairy aisle of a grocery store.
"It's not all valentine's and chocolate," Shreier added.
The two viewed more than 100 short films before whittling the lot to 11, according to the release.
"What's nice about a collection of short films like this is you can see many different storytelling techniques in one sitting," Jerow explained. "Every film is different. From traditional romance to some really unique takes on what love is."
Showtime is 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, in the Nicolet College Theatre. Admission is free.
During the evening the two long-time film aficionados will give a brief introduction of each film and at the end lead a discussion.
They'll wrap up their short film series this summer with a look at Earth, the environment, and natural resources.
