The Rhinelander Ice Association held its annual Kindness for Kids toy drive this month, which culminated in an open skating event Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

RIA members, and those attending the open skate, were encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy to Kindness for Kids, a local organization that gives gifts to less fortunate families in the Northwoods over the holidays.

"Kindness for Kids is a great program and they generate a lot of stuff for families that really need it. I'm big into that - I think we all are, aren't we," said RHS boys' hockey coach M.J. Laggis, who helps spearhead the toy drive at the RIA each winter. "It's nice for our kids to help and get gifts donated. This year, particularly, one of our player's moms, Mrs. Anna Wisner, got about $800 worth of gifts coming from her DOT office. That's really nice and it's really nice to make the donation."

A Kindness for Kids spokesperson told the River News 168 presents were donated through the toy drive.
