The Rhinelander Swim Club competed in Tomahawk last weekend.

Two club records fell during the competition. Jack Antonuk, 12, set a new record for his age group in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 9.09 seconds while Taylor Hollands, 15, set a new club record in the 200 butterfly (2:52.90). Antonuk also posted state-qualifying times in the 100 individual medley, 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly.

As in the past few meets, multiple swimmers had significant time drops. Ellyse Younker had the biggest drop of the meet with a 53-second improvement in the 100-yard IM. Ava Lamers dropped 33 seconds in the 50 butterfly, Brock Arrowood cut 30 seconds in the 50 freestyle, Madeline Ewan shaved 23 seconds in the 50 breaststroke, Morgan Louis improved 21 seconds in the 100 freestyle and Lisa Kennedy dropped 20 seconds in the 200 IM. Other swimmers with over 10 second time drops included Zeva Barrett, Phoebe Moran and Payton Seidl.

RSC head coach Megan Cihla said was impressed with the time drops.

"I am very proud of all the swimmers, but the kids that stood out the most to me this meet were my first-year swimmers," she said. "These swimmers have shown huge improvements in practices, so I've been challenging them more in meets. I put both Gussie and Millie Gruett, first-year swimmers, in events they weren't totally comfortable with and each time they got out of the pool they were excited they were able to swim it and learn from it. I've counted on Zoey Walker, another first-year swimmer, to try harder and longer events. As hard as those events are for this little 9 year old, she has dominated every obstacle I have given her. Our youngest swimmer, Claire Ably, had the best attitude about her events and was thrilled to know she was getting personal best ribbons. Matthew and Joshua Haselton and Drayke Arrowood, just a few of my new younger male swimmers, are really proving to be great athletes. I'm excited to continue challenging the kids new to club as we continue on in our season. I am so pleased that we have new swimmers of all ages and abilities. It's proof that it's never too late to join a swim team!"

New swimmer competing for the first time was Matthew Haselton.
