The Hodags competed Saturday, Dec. 3. in the pool at Antigo High School, which is different than most in the area, because it is 25 meters in length, opposed to 25 yards.
"We train every day in a yards pool to then go and compete in a meter pool can be difficult," RHS coach Megan Cihla said. "Everyone was given at least one challenge swim, something that was out of their comfort zone, and everyone did exceptionally well. Many of which exceeded their own expectations. Kids are starting to see how talented they are and can be, many even changing their goals for the season to qualify for state. This is something many kids never even thought of as possible in the past."
Competing for the first time this meet were Isaac and Rylee Mickevicius.
Two RSC swimmers had particularly strong days. Twelve-year-old Jack Antonuk won four events and posted times fast enough to qualify for the state swim meet in both the 50-meter freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Abi Winnicki, 10, won three events and posted state qualifying times in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
