Carlson Funeral Home selects winning student poems
The student poetry contest has been part of the Christmas Memories program at Carlson Funeral Home for 24 years. Students are asked to create poems that reflect the themes of memories and hope following loss. Winners are chosen based on their creativity and ability to reflect the contest themes in their poems. "The quality of work by these young authors is amazing and the student poems have become a much anticipated part of our holiday program," said Bruce Carlson, president and director at Carlson's.
"Christmas Memories is an ecumenical service of scripture, inspirational message, beautiful music, poetry, and traditional holiday refreshments intended to honor loved ones who have died and provide comfort and support to those family members and friends dealing with loss," the release states. "While the program gives special recognition to those who have died over the past year, the event is open to all members of the community who can find peace and reassurance by remembering and celebrating with others sharing a similar experience."
