Expera treats public safety workers to 'thank you' meal
Officials at the local Expera Specialty Products mill provided the meal as a way of thanking the officers and firefighters for keeping the community safe.
"This is an Expera-wide initiative for us to recognize and appreciate those who serve in local law enforcement and fire departments," said Nancy Watry, human resources manager for the local mill.
In light of the recent negative publicity and growing resentment toward police in many parts of the country, it was thought that a positive gesture toward local law enforcement and firefighters would be appropriate, she added. Watry said the local mill has a particularly close working relationship with the fire department.
"We wanted to make sure that people who serve in those roles here know how much we appreciate them," she said. "It's just a small token of our appreciation.
Acting plant manager Ashim Banerjee said the free lunch was the company's way of thanking those in the community who work to keep everyone safe.
"We are a part of the community," Banerjee said.
As the members of all three departments filed down the hallway to where the food was set up, they were greated by a line of plant officials who shook every person's hand and thanked them for their service.
