Rhinelander Nissan is planting its stake on "Dealership Lane" - Stevens Street - right across from Rhinelander Honda.

The groundbreaking for the Nissan dealership's new building took place April 15, with the smell of pine and dirt wafting on the breeze and the sound of cars driving by.

The new 20,000-square-foot building is expected to be complete by Sept. 1.

"Nissan hasn't been represented in 15 plus years, so now that there's a store here we're shocked everyday on how people are coming in clamoring for Nissans that they haven't seen in 15 years here," said Shawn Sivore, Homeland Auto Group.

Nissan began leasing 2066 Stevens St. last June and plans for the new building have been in the works since then.

"I'm excited to see the new building go up and I hope everybody comes in and sees the new building once it is up," said Kip Thiel, general manager of Nissan.

Additional staff will be hired as the new building goes up. The dealership needs salespeople, technicians, office personnel and service writers.

"Rhinelander is a pretty good hub for car dealerships," Sivore said, adding that many customers come from communities two to three hours from the city to find new wheels.

"You can shop up and down this drive and see lots of different brands, so it makes sense for us, it makes sense for Nissan, and we'll end up adding another 20, 20-plus jobs here in Rhinelander which is great," he added.

"Rhinelander as a whole has been such a great community for us, we've got the Chrysler store in town, the Honda store in town and I don't know of any town that we're in that supports their car dealerships and their local businesses as well as Rhinelander does so we're excited for the future," Sivore added.

Nissan services all makes and models, does warranty work for Nissan, alignment, breaks, tires, environmental protection, retail details, and more.

The Homeland Auto Group has 26 stores throughout Wisconsin and Illinois, three being in Rhinelander.
