"Nunsense Jamboree is an outrageously funny musical featuring Sister Mary Paul, who suffered amnesia from a falling crucifix," the theater company said in a press release announcing the show. "Luckily, she recovered and recalled she was a rising country singer. Sister Mary Paul, now known as Sister Amnesia, is played by Mary Ellen Keller. Sr. Amnesia has released her first album and is on a promotional tour. She is touring with: Sister Robert Anne, the street smart wise- crackin' nun, played by Carol Bartlein; Sister Leo the novice nun, who aspired to be a ballerina, played by Kimberly Odekirk; Father Virgil Trott, a Franciscan priest with his own country radio show, played by Joshua Jameson; Sister Mary Wilhelm, the Superintendent of Nursing, played by Nicole Lowery; Mother Superior offers her watchful eye, though she just had major surgery and is played by Linda Harter; and Sister Eunice, who has taken a vow of silence and is played by Wendy Richards."
"Some long-time fans of the Wabeno Area Players may remember we produced the original 'Nunsense', 22 years ago," Jameson said. Amazingly, five actors in that presentation are back in this show. Kimberly Odekirk, Carol Bartlein, Mary Ellen Keller and Linda Harter are appearing as the same characters they played over two decades ago.
Jameson was the band director in the last production, but now he is on the stage and directing.
"It's not necessary to have seen the original 'Nunsense' to enjoy this installment of Dan Goggin's nine 'Nunsense' shows," Jameson said.
The wild and crazy nuns from Hoboken are here in Wabeno to kick up their heels and sing many hand-clapping and foot-stomping tunes, the release states.
"If you're not a country music fan, don't worry, because the show has a 'Laugh-In,' 'Hee-Haw,' and Grand-Ole Opry slant that is sure to entertain everyone!" Jameson noted.
"The musical numbers are infectious comic tunes that include: 'I Could've Gone to Nashville,' 'We Miss You Patsy Cline (featuring an audience sing-along),' 'A Technicolor Woman,' 'The Delta Queen,' and 'A Cowgirl from Canarsie,'" according to Mary Ellen Keller, the music director,
Accompanying the singers are Becky Jennings on piano and Dale Keller on percussion.
Costuming is by Linda Harter, Wendy Richards, and Linda Zuleger. Carol Bartlein is the choreographer. The country set was constructed by John and Linda Harter, and Harter also operates the lights that Tim Friesen installed.
