First-place awards in the Wisconsin Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest in 2013 and 2014 make this publication a well-rounded recognizable, desirable, informational and promotional piece for local businesses.
"Having the advertiser's ads right next to their story makes for a great reason to be in this section," WNA judges from the Michigan Press Association wrote in their analysis. "Great ads! Glossy cover pulls this piece together."
The special section entry was part of an overall newspaper competition that featured 12 Wisconsin newspapers and 2,897 total entries. Given the competition and numbers of entries, the first-place awards in both the 2013 and 2014 contests elevates this product to more than a "special section."
Lakeland Times and Northwoods River News publisher Gregg Walker said, "The businesses that benefit the most by advertising in this piece are those taking a forward approach at improving, expanding, offering new state-of-the-art features, growth and better service."
It's not just an advertising platform for area businesses. The Progress edition is a means for businesses to promote what they do best through both the article form and advertising that places them front and center for area readers.
Progress features an attractive, glossy cover, in-depth articles, well-designed advertisements and an advertiser's index. It is a 10.5-inch by 11-inch tabloid and offers modular advertisements of quarter-, half- and full-page sizes.
Progress can be measured in many ways, but moving the area's economy forward is the most visible and impactful measure for Lakeland and Rhinelander area businesses. Whether it's continuing efforts to offer the best air transport or the subtle improvements at our area schools that help students learn while utilizing the best and newest technological advancements, it all adds up to progress.
"The progress theme isn't just about new technology," Walker said. "It's about striving for efficiency in all areas of the community, such as industry, services, medical and retail. A great deal of pride goes into this special section from every staff member at both offices. Businesses benefit all year long as they discover how often it's used as a local area reference piece."
The section will be inserted in both The Northwoods River News and The Lakeland Times, offering blanket coverage that reaches many Northwoods residents.
The drop-dead deadline to advertise in this section is Monday, April 18. Businesses that commit to a half-page or larger advertisement, qualify for a staff-written feature article.
