Children, adults bowl for Big Brothers Big Sisters
By Kayla Thomason-
Twelve teams, some comprised of only children, some only adults and a few mixed groups, competed.
"I think it's going great," said Nicky Lindman, marketing coordinator for the Northwoods chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters. "We have a lot of kids' teams which is a first for us. That's super exciting for us, (we have) some family teams and we're still seeing great support from our other business teams."
This was Lindman's first time organizing Bowl for Kids' Sake.
Teagan Lindman was in one of the groups of children and enjoyed her first time participating in the event.
"I think it's pretty fun," she said.
Teagan recruited some friends and neighbors to help the cause.
"I met some of my friends at Pelican - my school - and some are from down my street," Teagan said.
"It's really fun for kids and adults, for all ages, and it's just really fun," she added.
Other children dressed up for the occasion and had a great time.
Kaden Vanney donned an Iron Man costume.
"We were talking about it in the car and I was thinking 'Marvel' so we did Marvel," he said of his choice of costume.
He thought it was a fun event and would like to do it again.
"I think it's pretty fun right now and I helped my little sister get a strike," he said. "It's fun and you should definitely come to it."
His sister, Kendall, was dressed in a Hulk costume.
"This one was big enough for me and small enough," she said of the suit's fit.
She enjoyed her time bowling with her family.
"I like it very much," she said.
Adults also had a pleasant evening raising funds for Bowl for Kids' Sake.
Brenda Peltier participated in the event for the first time.
"Oh it's fun," she said. "I didn't realize all the little extras and perks that were involved in all of it so this is just really a pleasant surprise," she added, referring to the games and food.
Peltier even surprised herself by bowling a stronger game than usual.
"So far I'm surprising myself," she said. "I'm usually not a bowler."
Most importantly, however, she said she was glad to participate in an event that benefits youth.
"I know this is a big need out in any community and to have something like this as a fundraiser I think is fabulous," she said. "To hear that it's not just here but other locations as well and that they're all doing the same thing and making the benefit for our kids and there are so many kids in need of something like this."
She said she will come again next year and that Nicky Lindman did a fabulous job organizing the event.
Bowl for Kids' Sake is a nationwide event and brings in about 40 percent of Big Brothers Big Sisters total fundraising, but the money raised at this event will stay in the Northwoods.
"It's fun, it's full of chaos, it's nothing about bowling, it's about coming out and doing something for charity, for kids, youth in our area and there's no stress involved with it," Lindman said. "It's just a lot of noise and a lot of fun."
