DeMet announced his resignation in an email to the chamber membership late Monday afternoon. The message states he has accepted a new position with Nicolet National Bank and will leave his chamber post effective Oct. 2.
"I have greatly appreciated and enjoyed my time with you and at the Chamber of Commerce over the last 1.5 years," DeMet wrote. "This decision did not come easily but ultimately it is the one that I feel is best for my career aspirations and for allowing me to continue to work in the Rhinelander community. Your support, guidance, and volunteerism has proven invaluable during my time here and I will always remember and appreciate that. While my time at the Chamber will come to a close, I look forward to continuing to work and live in the Rhinelander community."
The message states DeMet and Brett Aylesworth, president of the chamber's board of directors, have begun making plans for a transition and the search for a new executive director.
"I will be happy to lend what time and support I can for helping the Chamber continue to meet its goals through the end of 2015 and beyond," DeMet wrote.
"Dana and I have discussed his decision and I wish him nothing but the best in his new position" Aylesworth said in a press release. "He has served our organization very well over his time here and I am glad he has chosen to continue to live and work in the Rhinelander community."
Aylesworth noted he has complete confidence the current staff will ably continue the organization's important work while the board works to find DeMet's successor.
"The Board of Directors and the very capable staff at the Chamber will work to ensure a smooth transition and the continuation of the Chamber's work in promoting and supporting the Rhinelander business community," said Aylesworth. "We will keep our members and the public abreast of all current information."
