The Pelican Lake Women's Civic Club hosted its 35th annual style show and luncheon Thursday afternoon at Holiday Acres.

The women enjoyed a chicken lunch with soup and dessert. At their leisure they perused the various raffle items such as a print of a black Lab and her pup, a homemade large pillow, pots and pans, casserole dishes, homemade canned goods, jewelry and more.

"I love coming here and I actually take off of work in Milwaukee to come up here for this event," said guest Linda Pomahac.

The ladies could also participate in a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and win door prizes.

While the luncheon was being served 10 models from the Pelican Lake Women's Civic Club weaved between the tables showing off a total of 21 autumn outfits.

Outfits came from Northwoods businesses such as Latitudes, Turn of the Century, Mel's Trading Post, She's All That and Open Armoire.

"I enjoy everything about it," Pomahac said. "I like the raffles. I love the ladies - I think they are very, very nice - the food is very good and I love the outfits."

One of Pomahac's favorite stores to frequent when she visits the Northwoods is Open Armoire and after seeing some of the fashions they have in stock she said she will be paying the store another visit.

"It's just a fun event," said Wendy England-Lowe, a frequent visitor to the show. She said she liked the food and fashion show and thought the event was very worthwhile.

Carole Aratus has attended for approximately 10 years and has modeled in the past. She noted that the money raised goes toward scholarships.

It was a thought echoed by others.

"It's fun to do, we enjoy making money so that we can give large scholarships and also support - there's at least 10 other agencies that we support," said Marsha Pahl, club co-chair.

The organizations the club supports include the Oneida County Humane Society, Raptor Education Group, Inc. (REGI), Frederick Place, the food pantries in Rhinelander and Elcho, the Pelican Lake Little League (girls' softball), the Pelican Lake Fire Department, Elcho Branch Library, Ministry Home Care/Hospice, Mecikalski Stovewood Foundation, and the Good Neighbor Fund.

Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to two graduating seniors from Elcho High School and a total of $5,000 will be donated between the scholarships and organizations.
