The event, benefiting both the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and the Frederick Place homeless shelter, was especially popular with children who enjoyed a hay bale maze, pumpkin painting and face painting, a hayride, a pumpkin patch and balloon animals.
Kelly Hart said she loved the hoedown and was happy to help two very worthy organizations.
"We use the food pantry and they're very helpful," she said, adding that attending the hoedown was a very affordable way to spend a fall afternoon. "I like that a lot of the stuff is free, it allows kids to have fun that really don't have the money," she said.
Adults enjoyed musical entertainment, line dancing and a pig roast.
It took about a hundred volunteers to put the event together, Rhinelander Area Food Pantry Board executive director Guy Hansen said.
"We had excellent volunteer help. We had several committees and they just did what needs to be done and it's great," he said. "We're very pleased. We set up yesterday and had an excellent set-up crew.
Carol Hansen said organizers are hoping to make the hoedown a yearly event.
"Guy and Tami Modic (executive director of Frederick Place) and Dana DeMet (former executive director of the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce) spearheaded the whole thing... They got the committees together and let them go and they did a fantastic job!" she said.
