Strasburg's North Country Taxidermy recently presented shoulder mounts to three youth hunters who registered the biggest bucks in the 2014 Northwoods Youth Deer Hunt Challenge.

Trophy winners were Brad Sowinski, Rhinelander, 11-point buck with a 16 5/8-inch spread; Braeden Bell, Rhinelander, 11-point buck with a 16 1/2-inch spread; and Sydney Lurvey, Eagle River, 9-point buck with a 17-inch spread.

The mounts were donated by Strasburg's North Country Taxidermy in Hazelhurst and given to the hunters who harvested the biggest bucks registered in the 2014 Northwoods Youth Deer Hunt Challenge (NYDHC).

The 12th annual Northwoods Youth Deer Hunting Challenge began Sept. 12 with the archery and crossbow season opener and will run until Dec. 15.

To be entered into the NYDHC, deer must be harvested legally from the wild, tagged with a state-issued carcass tag and registered with the state no more than five days before being entered. Deer must be brought to one of the following locations within five days of being registered with the state:

• Kurt's Island Sport Shop in Minocqua;

• North Country Taxidermy Studio in Hazelhurst; or

• The Lakeland Times.

Pick up NYDHC rules and regulations from any one of these locations or call Heather Holmes at (715) 356-5236.

NYDHC registration is free. Hunters do not need to register for the challenge prior to harvesting deer.

Participants may submit photos by email to The Lakeland Times at [email protected] or mail to P.O. Box 790, Minocqua, WI 54548.
