Chris Reed-Roeser won the grand prize gift basket raffled off during the recent Downtown Rhinelander Open House.
Nineteen participating businesses donated an item for the basket. Some of the items included lamps, gift cards for restaurants, centerpieces, a framed picture, clothing and more.
Participants dropped their name into a box at every store. Each business drew a name and those lucky people were put into the final raffle.
"(She) was so excited," said Mary Taylor, owner of Lund and Taylor Bridal Gallerie, said of Reed-Roeser. "She said she never wins anything."
Reed-Roeser attended the open house with her sister who resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both women put their names in the drawing.
Reed-Roeser said she signed up at about two stores while her sister signed up at nearly every store.
"She was mad and excited because she flew back to Salt Lake City today and she didn't get to see everything," Reed-Roeser said. "It was really cool too, just being downtown and kind of neat to see it growing downtown."
Visiting the businesses with her sister and meandering through the bustling crowds reminded her of her childhood.
"Honestly, when I was a kid, downtown was a super hopping place to be and for a long time it wasn't, so it was really neat," she said. "There were a lot of people in stores where you would have to just kind of cycle through them because they were so packed."
The participating businesses were Forth Floral, Lund & Taylor Bridal Gallerie, Trig's Floral, Best Embroideries, Diane's Frame Shoppe, Imaginuity, The Festive Frog, Tricia's Treasures, Vintage Thrift, The Shabby Cottage, Rhinelander Furniture & Mattress Outlet, Northern Coffee Haus, CT's Deli, Dominic's Italian Beef, The Brick, Lattitudes, Rhinelander Cafe & Pub, Mel's Trading Post and Hext Theatre.
