Local school districts benefit from Nicolet College equipment 'sale'
"All of the equipment was purchased with tax dollars and our thinking was that it should stay in the Nicolet district to support public education," said Nicolet Director of Facilities Pete Vanney, who organized the sale.
"All of the equipment is still very functional. We just didn't need it anymore due to changing needs and equipment upgrades."
Seven school districts elected to participate in the event that was technically called a sale but was as close to a giveaway as possible under state law, the college said in a press release.
For $1, each district could take as many pieces of the designated equipment as they wanted. Equipment included such everyday items as chairs, desks, lamps, and tables along with a variety of automotive equipment and a few unique items such as Lego modeling kits and a donut display case.
Districts participating in the event included Elcho, Lakeland Union, Laona, Mercer, Phelps, Three Lakes, and Rhinelander.
