"Into the Outdoors," a popular children's television series dedicated to science education, won a 2015 Emmy Award earlier this month at the annual Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Emmy Awards Ceremony in Chicago, the show's producers said in a press release. Since its debut in 2001, "Into the Outdoors" has earned 15 nominations in the category of "Outstanding Achievement for Children/Youth/Teen Programming," winning a total of 11 Emmy Awards to date.

The show is produced by Discover Mediaworks, which is owned by St. Germain residents Mark and Lisa Rose. Hailey Rose, age 13, daughter of Mark and Lisa Rose, and a student at Northern Pines Middle School, and Amelia Mackey from Middleton, took the stage to accept the award in front of approximately 1,000 television professionals at Chicago's Redmoon Theater.

"We are thrilled and humbled to receive our 11th Emmy Award," said Mark Rose, CEO of Discover Mediaworks, "This year's Emmy Award holds a special spot in our heart since our daughter Hailey is a third-generation Rose to host a program that Discover Mediaworks produces. It's an amazing moment and family accomplishment."

"Into the Outdoors" is produced by Dan Bertalan along with executive producers, Mark and Lisa Rose. "The show explores a wide array of science, nature, conservation and environmental topics," the release states. "The episode receiving the 2015 Emmy Award, 'Extreme Survival Strategies' showcases the myriad of ways creatures survive harsh environmental conditions. The hosts of the episode, Hailey Rose, Amelia Mackey, Josh Busher, and Caroline Smith, take viewers on a journey to learn how animals ranging from bears to waterfowl to walleye thrive in the extreme weather that exists in the Great Lakes region."

"One reason the television series connects with kids is that it's actually hosted by kids, using interactive production techniques," said Lisa Rose, executive producer. "We are proud that our television series is getting kids off the couch to learn about nature while creating discovery-based learning that empowers kids to think critically about their role as future stewards of planet Earth."

Locally the show airs on Eagle River WYOW TV34 (ABC) and Wausau WAOW TV9 (ABC) on Sundays at 11:30 a.m.

"The show is enjoyed in five states across the Midwest where it's broadcast on 19 networks and reaching a potential audience of over 13 million households. But the reach doesn't stop there," the release states. "Each episode produced for television broadcast is split into four segments as well. The segments are posted online at www.intotheoutdoors.org in addition to standards-based lesson plans for teachers to download free-of charge. The website contains background information on every video topic, information on the educational partners who supported each video, and the opportunity for teachers to submit their own lessons and video content. To view episodes, download educational materials, and to view other information, visit www.intotheoutdoors.org. 'Into the Outdoors' TV is part of a larger entertainment and education network that connects students and science education leaders by addressing environmental, farm, life, natural resource, physical and social science through the power of video. Some of 'Into the Outdoors' current educational partners include Project Wet, and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. The content available at www.intotheoutdoors.org blends serious science with outdoor adventure, showing students that creating solutions for a healthy planet is both necessary and fun. Lesson guides and student discussion questions are also available at www.intotheoutdoors.org."
