Each week, visitors to the Hodag Farmers Market can expect to find great farm-fresh vegetables, fruits, dairy products, and meats produced by local farmers and hobbyists. In this early season, products like asparagus, green onions, radishes, rhubarb, spinach and lettuce will be popular items, along with the perennial farm-fresh eggs, baked goods, honey and meats.
Last year, the Hodag Farmers Market introduced the ability to pay by Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and WIC cards for anything at the market. That continues this year and means that healthy, locally produced foods are accessible to all members of our community.
The Hodag Farmers Market offers more than just an easy way to get fresh, local food - it can also be a fun and easy Saturday morning outing for families and friends. Since the market is located in Pioneer Park, kids can enjoy the playground while the parents do a little grocery shopping and speak with the vendors. Couples and friends can also enjoy a walk together through Pioneer Park and explore parts of the Pelican River after the shopping is finished.
As the season progresses, each new weekend will offer something a little different at the market. You can always find out what is in-season by visiting www.HodagFarmersMarket.com where you can also read a little about the vendors, see photos from the market, and download an application if you are interested in being a part of the Hodag Farmers Market.
The Hodag Farmers Market runs each Saturday through summer, rain or shine, at Pioneer Park from 8 a.m. to noon. I invite everyone from the area to come support our local growers and also bring home some great quality food.
