Special Olympians compete in Merrill

This past Saturday, May 9, the School District of Rhinelander Special Olympics team ​traveled to Merrill to compete in a track and field regional competition.

"We all had a great time and did our best," SDR Special Olympics advisor Shelly Lehman noted.

The following four athletes qualified for the state competition which will be held June 4-6 at UW-Stevens Point: James Michniak (100-meter run), Krystal Kriesel (softball throw), Hannah Karstedt (50, softball throw) and Keegan Marko (100, shot put)

Below are results for the Rhinelander athletes:

• Gabe White (sixth in softball, second in 100-meter run)

• Sarec Trudeau (seventh in softball, seventh in 50-meter run)

• Miguel Gonzalez (seventh in softball and fifth in the 100)

• Paige Appling (seventh in softball and sixth in the 100)

• Max Everhart (fourth in softball and eighth in the 100)

• Devon Stanley (third in softball and seventh in the 100)

• Hannah Karstedt (second in softball and first in the 50)

• Keegan Marko (sixth in turbo javelin, third in shot put and second the 100)

• Krystal Kriesel (second in softball and sixth the in 100)

• James Michniak (sixth in softball and first in 100 M)

"Great job to all the athletes," Lehman said. "Good luck at state!"
