Car seat take-back at Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center a successful event
Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center Pediatrics Department joined forces with the Minocqua Fire Department and Minocqua Lady Lions to host the car seat "take-back," and recycling event at the Minocqua Center.
During this event, parents brought old, expired or damaged child car seats and dropped them off for free recycling and disposal.
"The goal was to keep old, expired or damaged seats from being re-used," said Carrie Miller, assistant manager, Primary Care, Minocqua Center. "We collected 61 car seats during the event. The most car seats we collected from one person was eight and the oldest car seat turned in was from 1980."
Minocqua Center pediatrician Dr. Holly Frost said all car seats have an expiration date that can be found on the manufacturer's label. If there is not an exact expiration date listed, a general rule is five years from the manufacture date.
"Car seats purchased secondhand are dangerous as well," Frost said. "If the history of the car seat is unknown, it may have been involved in a crash or recalled, so there are good reasons to check on the seat's history and safety."
The following businesses provided contributions for prizes: Brandy Lake BP, Kid's Kloset, Carquest, Lakeland Cinema, Arby's, T.J.'s Butcher Block, El Mez, BookWorld, The Boathouse, McDonald's, Walmart, Culver's, The Waters, Imagenuity, Save More and Marshfield Clinic Project Shine.
"We would like to thank all our donors and volunteers for a very successful event," Miller said.
The event is planned to be held again next year. For more information, call Carrie Miller, (715) 358-1862.
