Eagle River Speedway will open its 2015 season this Friday night.

The 1/3rd mile tri-oval enters its 41st season under new ownership and management. The track will be managed by Kevin Dawson, a 40-year veteran of stock car racing.

While the track has changed ownership, racers and fans will continue to see WISSOTA-sanctioned Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks. Every year some of the top racers competing on a national level in WISSOTA have made Eagle River Speedway their home track.

The track will continue to have the Micro Sprint 600s - a winged motorcycle engine class that has Sprint-Style cars hitting speeds over 90 MPH.

The popular pure stock class will return, as will the Trucks. Eagle River Speedway was also the track to give the 5 to 12 year olds the chance to race on the legendary tri-oval in the Junior Sprint class.

"We're also going to be holding special races throughout the summer, including the WISSOTA Midwest Modified Special and the Modified Shoot-out," Dawson said.

The track was built in 1974 by Ken Glembin. For the past five years it was owned by Mark and Sandy Glembin. It was the exceptional conditions of the track surface for the racers that brought racers from throughout Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula to race at Eagle River Speedway.

"This is an important part of the entire race package that we will continue," Dawson said. "We have kept the staff that the Glembins had, and will focus on both the conditions for the racers, and an affordable and exciting form of family entertainment for the fans. That's the package, I'm talking about ... great place to race and a great track to watch racing at."

Races will be held every Friday through Labor Day weekend.

The pits will open at 4 p.m., with general admission opening at 5. Hot laps will start at 7, with racing at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $11 for adults, $6 for children age 6-15 and free for children 5 and under.

Eagle River Speedway is located just west of Eagle River off State Highway 70 on Cloverland Drive.
