Someone You Should Know: Marcy Shetler

As part of our continuing effort to highlight interesting people in the community, the River News is offering readers a periodic feature entitled Someone You Should Know. Our reporters are compiling short profiles of individuals who are making valuable contributions to the community through their employment or volunteer work. Today we feature a person whose job it is to ensure every student at James Williams Middle School receives a healthy, lunch, school cafeteria worker Marcy Shetler. Shetler works hard to make sure students get the nutrients they need to learn and grow.

RN: Explain your job.

Shetler: With the help of a great staff, I order, cook and serve (food to) the children at James Williams Middle School. The kids are always greeted with a smile, and we make sure they walk away with a well-balanced meal and a smile.

RN: How long have you held this job?

Shetler: This is my fifth year at the middle school, and my 14th year in food service.

RN: What is your favorite part of the job?

Shetler: The kids, of course!

RN: What is the biggest misconception about the job?

Shetler: That we do not truly care about the health and well-being of the children we serve.

RN: What do you

like to do in your spare time?

Shetler: My new passion is Special Olympics. This is my second year as a volunteer at the middle school. It is, by far, the most rewarding thing I have ever been involved in.
