Kids In Need is selling Wisconsin River cruise tickets
By Kayla Thomason-
People can purchase a ticket at Kids In Need between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. for $50 a piece. Only 200 tickets will be sold.
"The $50 that they are spending on this ticket, not only do they have a chance at an awesome prize they also know that their $50 is going for a good cause, that their $50 is going to be helping the youth in this community and five other communities," said Tammy Ellis, executive director at Kids In Need.
The cruise is worth $800. The winner gets to choose the day they would like to take the cruise and invite 65 people to join them.
"It's a private charter," Ellis said. "It's going to be their boat for the day for that cruise."
Some people may be daunted by the number of guests they can bring, but Ellis pointed out a way to make it a family outing.
"When you think about 65 people that sounds like a lot of people and you're going 'I don't know 65 people, who am I going to invite on this boat?' and I thought the same thing, but when you start thinking 'I know 10 people and they have five people in their family' and it really adds up quite fast," she said.
The drawing is set for June 17 at the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce's Business After 5, but it is subject to change.
"If I sell the tickets early I would prefer to draw early so someone has more time during the season to set up their cruise," Ellis said.
If that is the case she will look to hold the drawing at an earlier public event.
The person who wins can upgrade the prize to a dinner cruise with a per-plate charge.
Kids In Need will use the proceeds from the ticket sale to benefit the children who use the facility.
According to Ellis, it costs Kids In Need $90,000 to run the program each year, however the program receives only $50,000 in grants.
Wisconsin River Cruises offered Kids In Need the prize last year.
"They actually offered it back when I lost the $16,000 grant and when the $10,000 check came in from Dobbs Financial Group I called Patty (and Ben Zastrow, owners of Wisconsin River Cruises) and asked if she would mind if I moved it to 2015 to kind of help out for when that grant doesn't come through this year and she agreed."
Kids In Need serves children in Lincoln, Langlade, Oneida, Vilas and Forest counties.
