It's that time of year when businesses and organizations gather to display their products or services during the 2015 Hodag Home Show, which will be held at the Rhinelander High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The event is free to the public and 60 to 80 vendors will be present. They will be showcasing services and new merchandise such as heating and cooling, home improvement, insulation, gutters and much more.

"We're one of the first home shows in the area so it's one of the earliest places that people can get on peoples' lists for the summer," said Dana DeMet, Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce executive director.

As people peruse the rows of vendors they will come across an arts and crafts show with gourmet foods and dips, to handmade things such as knitted items.

"This is a good opportunity for people to come and meet the vendors face-to-face, get to know the people that could be working on their home and see what services they offer," DeMet said.

For those who are feeling a bit peckish AMVETS will be selling sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, brats, chips, soda, coffee and water.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, The Home Depot will have a variety of kits for children to create so they can have fun while their parents gather information for their next project.

"We're just glad that we can provide the kids workshop for the community," said Jason Kuharske, store manager of The Home Depot in Rhinelander. "I think (the children) will probably like it a lot so they won't be bored."

Bounce houses will also be set up for children.

Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people flock to the home show each year, according to DeMet.

"I think it's really good for the Rhinelander area to have something like this because it drives a good number of people into the area to get a first look at people that can help them out with their projects for the coming season," he said.

DeMet said sees a lot of people who check out their options even though their project won't be completed until later down the road.

"People should think about coming out for (the home show)," He said. "It's a free event, whether they are a homeowner or not there's all kinds of different vendors there for people to get to know about. Even if you don't have a project planned for the season you should come out."

Vendors like that the home show is available as it helps them get their name out in the community.

"(The home show helps many people become) aware of how many local businesses there are and hopefully they understand the advantages of staying local versus box stores, keeping the money in their own community," said Michelle Arrowood, office manager at Dahlquist Heating and Cooling.

Dahlquist has been a part of the home show for approximately 10 yeas. They will be featuring the new Heat-N-Glo Quadra-Fire electric fireplaces.

"How the venting works is probably the most common question we get - the difference between pellet, wood, gas - and how safe they are," Arrowood said.

She likes being a part of the show because "(I like) the exposure and meeting all the local people."

The Home Depot's booth will feature the various installation services they offer such as cabinet facing, kitchens, sun rooms and HVC, according to Kuharske.
