Erickson is the producer of "For the Birds," the longest running radio broadcast about birds in the United States.
The program is aired on multiple Midwest stations and can be heard regularly on area public radio station WXPR.
Erickson's presentation at NUUF entitled, "The Heart of the Matter," is personal.
A heart attack suffered on Valentine's Day has put her relationship to "nature and birds in a different perspective," she says.
Regardless of the circumstances, listeners can expect Erikson to infuse her scientific knowledge and birding expertise with characteristic humility and girl next door charm.
According to Erickson, she has been a scientist, teacher, writer, wildlife rehabilitator, blogger, public speaker, photographer, contributor and American Robin Expert for the popular Journey North educational website.
She is also an avid birder.
Erickson participated in the "2013 Conservation Big Year," sighting 604 species. As a result, she is listed among the top ten birders on the American Birding Association's "Listing Central" for the Lower 48 States Big Years.
Among Erickson's proudest accolades is the Roger Tory Peterson Award, bestowed in 2014 by American Birding Association, its highest honor.
Currently, Erickson is a contributing editor of Bird Watching magazine. She is the author of eight books, including 101 Ways to Help Birds and the National Geographic Pocket Guide to North American Birds. She also collaborates on projects with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, where she served as science editor from 2008-2010.
For those wishing to attend Erickson's presentation, the Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 8625 Peggys Lane in Woodruff.
