Game 1 of a Northwoods Babe Ruth League doubleheader Thursday at Stafford Field was a battle of the bats that lasted just shy of three hours and went into extra innings with Rhinelander 1 beating Rhinelander 2 12-11.
Rhinelander 1 opened the game scoring two runs in the first but didn't score again until the fifth inning. Rhinelander 2 scored in four of the first five innings, answering back in the bottom of the first with four runs. Rhinelander 2 scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth giving itself an 11-2 lead after five innings.
It was starting to look like Rhinelander 2 would walk away with the win, until Owen White got the bats going in the sixth for Rhinelander 1. The team would plate nine runs in the inning, tying the game at 11. Rhinelander 1's Seth Hargraves came around to score on a single to right field by Brandon Cox in the eighth for what proved to be the winning run.

Rhinelander-3 4, Rhinelander-2 2
The second game of Thursday's doubleheader turn out to be a pitchers' duel. The score board showed all zeros through four and a half innings.
Rhinelander 3 struck first as Cole Spaulding scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rhinelander 2 answered, scoring twice in the sixth. Rhinelander 3 brought back the bats in the sixth inning and scored just enough to come out of the game with the win, three runs.
Defense and pitching was the story of the game for both teams. Rhinelander 3 center fielder Teagan Guckenberg made two catches that looked impossible from the bleachers, one of which he dove to make and he and the umpire may have been the only two people in the ballpark who initially saw that he made the grab to end the side.
Jacob DeMeyer started on the mound for Rhinelander 3. He pitched all seven innings, striking out nine batters to walk away with the win. DeMeyer helped himself on the bases, scoring once on one hit and stealing a base.
Danny Zuiker scored once and drew a walk. Alec Modrow, who is no stranger to driving in winning runs for his team this year, drove in what would be the two runs to seal the win on a bomb to left field. Modrow was issued a ground rule double when the ball went under the fence and out of play. He also came around to score a run.
Cole Spaulding scored once on two hits, stole a base and drove in one.
Nate Cogar had one hit and drove in one. Max Spaulding had two hits and a stolen base.
Teagan Guckenberg stole a base and Jake Wilmot recorded a hit.
Rhinelander 2 sent Sedlacek to the mound to start the second game of the night. He struck out three, and retired the Rhinelander 3 lineup in order in three of his four innings of work.
Randolph came in to pitch the final two innings and struck out one.
Sedlacek scored once on one hit, stole a base and walked. Laggis had a double and drew a walk.
Quade had one hit and a stolen base. Kurtz had one hit and a stolen base. Schramke scored once, Remitz had a hit, Huempfner drew a walk and Randolph hit a double.
