The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the best bloody mary competition held at Rhinelander's Boom Lake Log Jam on June 20.
Eight area bars and restaurants competed for People's Choice and Judge's Choice awards for the tastiest bloody mary in northern Wisconsin.
Competitors in the inaugural competition included the River Street Tap, Holiday Acres - Three Coins Restaurant, Hext Theatre, Northwestern Lounge, Sunset Junction, CT's Deli, Rhinelander Cafe & Pub, and Fisher's Resort.
Log jam ttendees cast their votes in the People's Choice competition while a panel of celebrity judges chose the winners in the Judge's Choice category.
Celebrity judges included 93.7 WCYE's Ben Merritt, Kaitlyn Howe from WJFW Newswatch 12, YMCA of the Northwoods CEO Laurie Schlitt, and Alex Young from the City of Rhinelander and Oneida County Board of Supervisors.
The Northwestern Lounge won the popular vote in the People's Choice category with an average score of 4.16 out of 5 to claim first place in the category.
Fisher's Resort followed closely in second with a score of 4.00 out of 5 and Rhinelander Cafe & Pub took third with a score of 3.53.
The panelist of celebrity judges must have tasted close to the same thing as the rest of the crowd as they awarded first place to the Northwestern Lounge with a perfect 5 out of 5 to make it a clean sweep for the downtown Rhinelander establishment.
Hext Theatre emerged from the rest of the competitors to claim second place in Judge's Choice voting, followed closely by Fisher's Resort in third place.
The bloody mary competition was a part of the festivities at the second annual Boom Lake Log Jam held on the shores of Boom Lake in Hodag Park.
Other activities included All-American Lumberjack shows, forestry equipment displays and simulators, citizen logger competitions, chainsaw art demonstrations, a scavenger hunt, arts and craft fair, pancake breakfast, live music, and much more.
The Rhinelander area can look forward to future competitions as plans for next year's Boom Lake Log Jam and bloody mary competition are already underway.
