Annual carhop supports hunger relief
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran event set for June 27
The car hop will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the church, located at 21 West Timber (corner of Timber and Brown Streets) in Rhinelander. If there is inclement weather, serving will be inside the church.
This year, all of the proceeds will be used for hunger relief, both locally and abroad with the motto this year being "You Eat So Others Will Be Fed!"
According to Hunger in America's 2014 report, in the U.S., one in six people struggle with hunger and one in seven access food banks to help meet their needs. The report also states that 89 percent of households with children are considered food insecure.
Around the world, about 795 million people are undernourished globally, according to the State of Food Insecurity in the World 2015 report released in March.
Items served at the carhop will include burgers, brats, hot dogs, French fries, shakes, malts, root beer floats, water and soda. Members of the church and the youth will be serving customers.
Helping the community
Besides helping the local community fight hunger, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church is also continuing to accept diapers all summer from newborn to adult sizes for local distribution.
The Diapers & Wipes Program launched in May and has already brought in several packages of diapers and wipes.
Diapers and wipes can be dropped off at the church on Sundays before or after services or by calling the church office at (715) 362-5910.The car hop will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the church, located at 21 West Timber (corner of Timber and Brown Streets) in Rhinelander.
