DRI executive director attends entrepreneurship training
"Rhinelander is home to 1,345 businesses employing less than 10 individuals," according to a DRI press release. "Identifying and assisting these individuals to grow their business locally has the potential to generate significant economic returns, including income and sales tax growth, decreased storefront and upper floor vacancy, and increased local employment opportunities."
In addition to gaining information on entrepreneurial and small business assistance programs available to support traditional business development, participants heard from co-working and incubator space managers who shared organizational and operational insights for communities interested in cultivating a supportive environment for start-up activity.
A variety of models were presented which target individual industry sectors, including professional and technical co-working space, arts incubators, maker spaces and commercial kitchens.
"Main Street provides valuable information and education-combined with local statistics which aids Downtown Rhinelander Inc. (DRI) to develop, focus and support the many entrepreneurs and small businesses in our community," the release states. "It is the smaller clientele which encompasses the downtown that contributes to its uniqueness. The information provided was extremely helpful as DRI continues to offer our own, and the first, business incubator in the Rhinelander area."
The workshop was one of five annual training events conducted by WEDC that are tailored to Main Street directors and designed to foster downtown development and revitalization in Wisconsin communities.
