White Pine Family Fun Center reopens under new ownership

Tom and Dani Hicks bought the White Pine Family Fun Center 10 days ago and began welcoming guests Friday.
The business, located on State Highway 17, is a miniature golf course with concessions available.
The pair are the third owners of the business. They purchased the property from Dave Sanderson.
"We were driving by and she saw the sign. She said turn around. We called the number and 20 minutes later we met with the previous owner," Tom explained.
"Now here we are. That's the way we do things, on impulse," Dani said. "It's already June, so we're trying to get things ready to open. Next year will be a whole different story."
Weather permitting, the miniature golf course will be open through the end of October. The couple also plan to hold events such as a Halloween Haunted House.
"We've got a lot of ideas," Dani said.
Dani is from Minocqua, where she tended bar for 20 years at Bosacki's, Whitmans, the Minocqua Brewery, and The Waters of Minocqua. Tom is from Kentucky and moved to Rhinelander in 2003. He worked at Northwoods Tree Farm, LLC.
Dani grew up going to miniature golf courses in Minocqua, and later brought her sons. "They're already practicing," she said.
The business had been on the market for awhile before the couple took it over.
"It hasn't been open in three years, so we had to clean up what hasn't been touched in three years," Tom said.
The family fun center will include an arcade soon, Tom said. It will be open until at least 10 p.m. for teenagers.
Sundays the center will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays it will be open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
"I think it will help the community out, because it's something recreational for the kids to do," Dani said.
Tom and Dani are planning to work at the fun center themselves for awhile, to see how it goes. Down the road they might hire help. "It's a pretty cool job," Dani said.
The two have plans for the center above and beyond miniature golf, concession stand, and arcade. Their grand opening is June 19 and 20, and Pump up the Party is bringing a bounce house to the location for kids to enjoy.
"We hope to have more activities," Dani said. On Fridays and Saturdays vendors can come set up tables, rummage sales, or crafts, she said. The location is good for that because there is a lot of space and "we have a lot of traffic."
Dani said the Girl Scouts have been in touch with her already, and they will host events for groups, with special rates.
Future plans include more collaboration with Pump up the Fun and next year they hope to have many more activities such as carnival days, Dani said.
