Rhinelander High School held its 2015 Commencement Ceremony on Sunday afternoon in the packed Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
The event was held inside due to wet weather and construction work on the Mike Webster Stadium track.
"Wherever it is that you go (and) whatever you choose to do, I am confident that you will excel." Principal David Ditzler told the class of 2015. "Go out there and be excellent. Please don't forget your Hodag roots, but go out there and make the world a better place."
Seniors Yvonne Gardner and Logan Sackett emceed the event while several students shared their thoughts about the end of their high school days.
"We had fun together in times of deep sorrow...we've also come together in times of great joy," said Morgan Blaser. "Now it's time for us to spread our wings," Blaser told her classmates. "It is our turn to be the change in the world."
"No matter what path you take someday it will make perfect sense," she added. "Today we say goodbye to everything that was familiar...we are moving on."
Foreign exchange students Christoffer Kjeve, Felipe Meza, and Maike Saggau also addressed the crowd. They offered thanks to the community, teachers, coaches, host families, other students and friends.
The RHS Shodags performed the national anthem, "For Good," and "Alma Mater," while the RHS Band played "Arabesque," "Pomp and Circumstance," and "Recessional."
Teachers Steven Geiger and Patricia Lefebvre addressed the students. They provided a couple of top 10 lists - things to remember from their Hodag days and a list of advice which included the following pearls of wisdom: happiness is a journey, not a destination; when you get the chance dance; put down the technology and smell the roses; kindness is free; always remember where you came from; make a difference; and behind every great success lies at least one pot of coffee.
One last piece of advice from Geiger was to "find your balance."
Salutatorian Erin Tenderholt reminded students to make the most of "the dash," that space between date of birth and death on a tombstone.
Valedictorian Scott Sedlacek thanked family, teachers, and the community on behalf of the class. He also expressed his Hodag pride.
"We are the Hodags," he said. "When I tell people I'm a Hodag, there's no doubt I am from Rhinelander."
The top 10 students were Erin Clements, Kenneth Routheaux, Dustin Simon, Logan Sackett, Riley Aschenbrenner, Michael Anderson, Megan Haug,
Morgan Blaser, Erin Tenderholt, and Scott Sedlacek.
