A 47-year-old town of Pelican man, charged June 4 in Oneida County Circuit Court, faces up to 25 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of three years, for allegedly possessing child pornography on his personal computer.
Agents of the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Invest-igation and the Oneida County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on a town of Pelican home on the morning of June 3, according to the criminal complaint. After the occupants of the house were located, a computer forensic expert examined an external hard drive in the bedroom belonging to Roy A. Zarm. According to a report attached to the criminal complaint authored by the special agent in charge of the operation, the expert found 26 still images and four video files that allegedly could be classified as child pornography.
According to the description of two video files and three still photos listed in the report, the females involved were apparently "prepubescent" or "likely under the age of 13," the report states.
Zarm told the agents "I just made a stupid mistake. If I could turn it back I'd stop it, and never do it again," according to the report.
The report states that Zarm said that he was "curious about" what was out there and that he would never do it again.
Zarm was arrested and taken to the Oneida County Jail.
Assistant District Attorney Steve Michlig, citing the seriousness of the charge and the mandatory minimum prison sentence awaiting Zarm if he is convicted, urged Judge Michael Bloom to set a cash bond on the class D felony.
Bloom ordered a $10,000 signature bond with conditions that Zarm not use any device that can access the Internet, that he only use a computer at work and only for job-related tasks, and that he have no unsupervised contact with any females under the age of 18.
Zarm will be back in court June 20 for an adjourned initial appearance.
