The 28 students in the Rhinelander High School Building Trades class showed off the house they built for Habitat for Humanity Saturday.
The three bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath house, located at 1504 Balsam Lane, is very energy efficient. It was built using the latest air sealing and insulating techniques, and advanced framing techniques. It also has radiant slab heating flooring, and photovoltaic cells (solar cells) on the roof. The house is so energy efficient that it is estimated that the monthly energy bill will be under $50.
"There's a lot of pride in it, (the students) really take ownership in it, so to speak, because they know it's for someone," said Russ Germain, technology and engineering teacher at RHS.
The family should be moving in this summer.
