Jenkinson, a social visionary, teacher, author and farmer, will discuss the film and his book, "Die Wise - A Manifesto for Sanity and Soul," after the screening.
"Griefwalker," directed by Tim Wilson, was filmed over a 12-year period and shows Jenkinson in teaching sessions with doctors and nurses, in counseling sessions with dying persons and their families, and in meditative and often frank exchanges with the director about the origins and consequences of his ideas for how we live and die, according to an ArtStart press release. Jenkinson draws on experience, having worked with more than 1,000 dying people. His school, the Orphan Wisdom School, was founded in 2010, and Jenkinson and his scholars are redefining what it means to live and die well.
In "Die Wise," Jenkinson does not offer seven steps for coping with death, nor does he suggest ways to make dying easier, the release states. Instead, with lyrical prose, deep wisdom and stories from his two decades of working with dying people and their families, he teaches the skills of dying, skills that have to be learned in the course of living deeply.
Jenkinson has led palliative care programs, including a program for children, in Toronto, Ontario. He holds master's degrees from Harvard University (Theology) and the University of Toronto (Social Work).
Admission to this event is by donation to cover expenses. The program will be held at the ArtStart Building, 68 S. Stevens St. in Rhinelander. For information, call (715) 362-4328 or www.ArtStartRhinelander.org.
