The Rhinelander Area Food Pantry Greenhouse had a very productive spring, resulting in a large crop of vegetable plants.

Over 1,000 pepper and tomato plants along with 500 cabbage and broccoli plants were distributed to food pantry patrons and area seniors during May and June, food pantry organizers said in a press release. In addition, 50 pre-planted containers of vegetables were also distributed. "The demand was so great that after the Master Gardener's plant sale on June 13, they donated another 500 plants that were then available to food pantry clients and volunteers," the release states.

Garden and Greenhouse co-chair Tom Jerow was very pleased with the results of the first greenhouse growing season, and as anticipated, had no problem distributing all the vegetable plants. Jerow and the food pantry would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Rhinelander for donating the greenhouse and the area Master Gardeners for donating the additional plants. "A large number of area families will be eating healthier as a result of their generosity," the release states.
