MTH Foundation gift supports books for Marshfield Clinic cancer care patients
The funds were used to purchase books given to patients to help them on their path through the survivorship program.
The books purchased are:
• "The Journey Through Cancer," by Dr. Jeremy Geffen.
• "Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cancer Book," by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and David Tabatsky.
• "What to Eat During Cancer Treatment," published by the American Cancer Society.
The MTH Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to fulfilling the life pursuits and dreams of Mary Terese Hartzheim, who died from a rare carcinoid neuroendocrine cancer, for which no cure exists.
The MTH Foundation carries out its mission by funding cancer research programs and by supporting the educational endeavors of young people in Minocqua.
"We're very grateful that the MTH Foundation made this substantial investment for the purchase of these wonderful books to help cancer patients through their journey," Christine Hayes, a registered nurse with the Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center Medical Oncology Department, said.
One of the major fundraisers for the MTH Foundation is the annual Mary Mile, which will be held Aug. 1.
The event begins in Torpy Park, with registration from 7 to 8:30 a.m. There is a 9 a.m. start for the mile and 5K runs. The kid's sprint begins at 9:30 a.m.
Runners may register online or pay by check to be made payable to the MTH Foundation.
Mail to MTH Foundation, P.O. Box 1285, Minocqua, WI 54548. Call 1-866-MTH-5737 for more information.
"We annually help sponsor this worthwhile event as it helps recognize the work of a local Minocqua family to support many of our efforts in the Northwoods," Karen Swartz said. She is the manager of Marshfield Clinic Medical Oncology in Minocqua and James Beck Cancer Center, Rhinelander.
