Cinfio and his wife Sabrina decided to open the Italian restaurant at 151 North Brown Street in Rhinelander. Two of their five children work at the restaurant with them, making it a family adventure, Cinfio said. The restaurant is named for Cinfio's father, Dominic, who was born in Bari, Italy.
The inspiration for the restaurant came about five years ago, when the Cinfios noticed there were no Italian restaurants in Rhinelander.
"My parents were big Italian beef eaters so they would go to Eagle River and get a beef there," Cinfio said.
Cinfio also has a lot of family in Chicago, so they would travel down and enjoy the Italian food there as well.
"It was just something I felt like I wanted to do. I wanted to take on a different challenge," Cinfio said of opening the restaurant.
The menu features authentic Italian food, including calamari, veal and mussels, among a robust selection.
"Calamari was really big at our soft open," Cinfio said.
Saturday a lot of people ordered the Italian beef and were pleased, Cinfio said, citing comment cards patrons filled out.
The restaurant will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Dominic's will also feature nightly specials.
It took seven months to get the building into shape for the restaurant, with over 12 tons of garbage removed, between the basement and the old side of the building, Cinfio said. Parts were gutted, while the new part of the building only needed painting and for the old booths to be removed.
The bathrooms were redone and the air conditioning was replaced, Cinfio said.
The bar was found in Spooner.
The woodwork and booths came from Elite Custom Cabinetry out of Wausau, Cinfio said.
Dominic's is the second new restaurant to open on Brown Street within weeks as CT's Deli opened last week just up the street.
