It was 43 years ago that a small group of community-minded individuals, who loved the world of art, conceived the idea of a quality art show in the area.
"We have learned that the combination of quality and variety keeps people coming back year after year," said committee member Barb Zyhowski. "It takes a full year of work and coordination to put this show together. We constantly look for fresh and innovative artists that not only reflect great skill but talent and taste as well."
The committee has selected a balance of 100 artists from a variety of art medias, including painting, fiber art, woodworking, glassware, pottery, jewelry, photography, any medium possible.
A special feature is the "Young at Art" tent, where children are invited to display and sell their handmade creations.
"These kids are so pumped and excited to be able to make and sell their art projects right alongside the professionals," said coordinator Lori Hahn. "It's amazing the quality of some of the artwork. This year I have a five-year-old who will be selling handmade personalized postcards and original paintings. You will also find handmade bracelets, necklaces and purses from some of the other young artists."
Picnic-style food will be available on site, provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters as well as rootbeer floats served by the Eagle River Historical Society.
A silent auction will be held in the morning with donated items from Artarama exhibitors at reduced prices, with all proceeds going toward scholarships and artist in residence programs.
Artarama is a non-profit organization, so all proceeds are returned to the community as civic contributions. Artarama awarded two $1,000 scholarships in 2015 to Anya Fairchild of Three Lakes and Tim Priefer of Eagle River.
Parking is available on the Vilas County Fairgrounds for a nominal charge to the Eagle River Lions Club.
