The first game of the tournament saw Rhinelander 2 face off against Laser Pros. Rhinelander 2 never trailed, defeating Laser Pros 8-5 to advance to play Rhinelander 3 in the quarterfinals Wednesday, July 15 in Tomahawk.
Rhinelander 2 took the early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning, and never looked back. Laser Pros mounted a comeback, pulling within two runs in the fourth inning, but Rhinelander 2 tacked on two more runs in the top half of the seventh. Laser Pros got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, but fell shy when Cody Sedlacek struck out a pair to end the ball game.
Josh Randolph started on the mound for Rhinelander 2 and pitched the first two innings, striking out one. Sedlacek finished the game pitching five innings and struck out nine batters.
Sedlacek helped himself out in the batters box, scoring a run on two hits, with one stolen base.
Abe Laggis scored twice on three hits, with two stolen bases. Randolph scored twice on three hits, stole four bases and drove in one. Brad Quade scored twice on two hits and drove in two. Jon Humpfner scored one run on one hit, walked and drove in one. Tim Remitz hit two doubles driving in one. Alec Kurtz hit a triple. Zach Anderson walked twice and Kamerin Resch had a hit.
Bryce Schickert started the day on the mound for Laser Pros, throwing four innings, striking out seven batters. Tait Spencer pitched the remaining three innings.
Spencer scored three runs on three hits, with a stolen base. Colton Krueger scored one run on one hit, with a stolen base. Schickert had two hits driving in one and stole a base. Scott Fox walked and stole a base and Matthew Reinthaler had a hit.
