Each team scored in the first and fifth innings, with Rhinelander one-upping Lakeland each time.
Lakeland scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Rhinelander 2 came roaring back with the middle of its order.
Quade led off the inning with a double to left and Eric Grulke singled. Grulke then took second without a throw to give Jon Huempfner runners at second and third with nobody out. Huempfner responded by singling up the middle to put Rhinelander ahead 4-2. He scored two batters later as Alec Kurtz hit a high chopper up the middle for a base hit.
Sedlacek quieted the Lakeland bats from there. An infield hit in the sixth was the only base runner the southpaw allowed as he worked the final two innings to earn the save. Sedlacek struck out the final two batters of the game - the Nos. 1 and 2 hitters in Lakeland's batting order.
Lakeland scored a run in the top of the first inning, but Rhinelander responded with two in the bottom half of the inning. Sedlacek led off with a single to left and Abe Laggis beautifully executed a drag bunt on a hit and run to give the Hodags runners at the corners. Sedlacek later scored on a wild pitch and Laggis came around to score on a ground out to short by Grulke.
From there, Quade hung up zeroes on Lakeland's side of the scoreboard. The sophomore-to-be went five innings, allowing three runs on one hit, while striking out one. A low strikeout total meant Rhinelander 2 had to play strong defense behind its pitcher, and the Hodags did just that - committing only one error in the contest.
Rhinelander 2 collected six hits from six different players Monday - Sedlacek, Laggis, Quade, Grulke, Huempfner and Kurtz.
The win moved Rhinelander 2 to 3-8 on the season. Lakeland defeated the Tomahawk Cardinals 5-2 Thursday to move to 9-3 and clinch the Carlson Division title. Rhinelander 3 leads the Marquardt Division by a half game over Eagle River, with the two teams set to meet Thursday in Rhinelander. The two division leaders at the end of regular season play will meet Tuesday, July 7 at Stafford Field for in the regular season championship game.
