As part of our continuing effort to highlight interesting people in the community, the River News will be bringing readers a periodic feature entitled Someone You Should Know. Our reporters will be compiling short profiles of individuals who are making valuable contributions to the community through their employment or volunteer work. Featured this week is Zamboni driver Eric Arno.

RN: Please explain your job.

Arno: The Zamboni shaves a thin layer of ice and augers transfer the shaved ice into the front dump tank. The Zamboni also lays water down to fill in skate marks.

RN: How long have you held this job?

Arno: I have been helping out at the rink for 13 years.

RN: What is your favorite part of the job?

Arno: My favorite part of doing the job is the satisfaction of making a nice sheet of ice for the kids and community to use.

RN: What is the biggest misconception about your job?

Arno: Probably the biggest misconception is that anybody can operate the Zamboni. The machine is not real difficult to operate but there is an art to making a really nice sheet of ice.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Arno: I spend a lot of spare time at the rink, with two boys still in hockey. I love to get out snowmobiling and ice fish when I can.
