Event organizers hope falling temperatures will help firm up the ice on Lake Minocqua but decided on Jan. 27 to move the event tent to Torpy Park in Minocqua for the safety of event patrons.
"Everything else stays the same," Cross Country Cruiser Secretary Michelle Bird said in a telephone interview. Fireworks have been relocated to the northwest side of the island.
Festivities will begin Friday night at the cruiser tent with a bonfire, food, beverages, music and a snowmobile parade from Stacks Bay to the Aqua Bowl. There will also be fireworks Friday night sponsored by the Town of Minocqua and the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce.
On Saturday, riders are invited to a breakfast at the heated cruiser tent from 8 to 11 a.m. Food in the tent will continue with a lunch of chili, brats and burgers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Outside the tent, radar runs will begin at 10:30 a.m. with 30 classes on 660 feet of hard pack track in front of Torpy Park. The top speed winner will take home $750.
"Instead of a groomer, we will be using lighter farm equipment to groom the track," Bird said. She maintains that it will be the "fastest 660 track in the Northwoods."
Dealer displays will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Bikini Run, sponsored by Slo's Pub, will begin at 2 p.m., females only.
Cruiserfest will also host an all-day swap meet and all-day vintage sled display for attendees to show off their sleds or sell their snowmobile or ATV equipment.
"We're anticipating a larger crowd this year," Bird said. "We expect the crowds could be bigger because people were intimidated to come out on the ice in previous years."
