The Rhinelander Basketball Association hosted a seventh- and eighth-grade Great Northwest Basketball League tournament Jan. 17 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
The RBA's seventh- and eighth-grade traveling teams competed in the event. Both teams finished second in their division, going 3-1 on the day.
The Hodag seventh graders started the day with wins over Mosinee (34-18) and Lakeland (32-11) before losing to Wausau West Navy (46-23). The team responded to that defeat with a 44-23 win over D.C. Everest.
The Hodag eighth graders started the day with a 44-33 loss to eventual tournament champion Ashland, but rallied with victories over Northland Pines (35-17), Three Lakes (58-29) and Tomahawk (44-21).
RBA 5th graders take second in Merrill
The Rhinelander Basketball Association fifth-grade girls' traveling team took second place Jan. 17 at a tournament in Merrill. The Hodags lost to Stevens Point 26-15, beat Ladysmith 20-11 and beat Lakeland 49-4.
