Seventy-two swim club members got on the blocks against swimmers from Tomahawk, Lakeland, Marathon Area, Wittenberg Area, Ironwood, Mich. and Iola-Scandinavia.
Rhinelander took home first place with 2,954 points, nearly 700 points better than runner-up Lakeland. Adding to the excitement, the Hodag swimmers won both the boys' and girls' 450 yard Freestyle Crescendo relays. The club has not won those two events at its home invite in over a decade.
The crescendo relays are an excellent gauge of the competitive strength, cooperation, and unity of the entire swim club," RSC coach Lindsay Byrka said. "Each age group is represented in the relay by its top athlete. Those athletes compete on behalf of their teammates, family, and friends that support, encourage, and train with them throughout the year. We are so proud of these kids and the entire club."
The winning boys' team in the 450 crescendo was comprised of Sam Schoppe, 8, Mathias Fugle, 8, Jack Antonuk, 10, Thaddeus Heck, 12, Joseph Heck, 12, and Russell Benoy, 13, who clocked in with a time of 5 minutes 11.42 seconds.
