First up is the person who runs the business office for the School District of Rhinelander, Marta Kwiatkowski. Kwiatkowski handles all budget-related issues for the district while also lending a hand on the human resources side of the administration wing.
RN: Please explain your job.
Kwiatkowski: I am the director of business services for the School District of Rhinelander. I also have the responsibility as technology department director and human resources director for the district's support personnel. I manage the district's $42 million budget, oversee all the requisitions, manage liability, workers' compensation and all benefits including health insurance, and the operation of the Aspirus Community Fitness Center. I also oversee the food service, maintenance, and custodial departments.
RN: How long have you held this job?
Kwiatkowski: This is my ninth year in the position.
RN: What is your favorite part of the job?
Kwiatkowski: Making a difference in each child's life. As a mom, I want the best education for my children, and the decisions that I make every day have a positive impact on all students in the School District of Rhinelander. My main focus is education, and if we can find efficiencies in our operations, then we will have more funds for our educational programs.
RN: What is the biggest misconception about the job?
Kwiatkowski: People often feel that I make the funding formula so complicated. The school funding formula is determined by the state of Wisconsin. It is my responsibility to make sure the district is in compliance with the funding formula and that it adheres to all laws and regulations.
RN: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Kwiatkowski: I love to spend time with my family. I also enjoy traveling and working out.
