Sheltrown named Nicolet College's 'Top Gun' welding student
That's how Jason Sheltrown describes his experience in Nicolet College's Welding program where he was recently honored with the Top Gun Welding Award, the highest student honor given in the program.
"We had several top-performing students, anyone of which would have been deserving of the award," said Nicolet College welding instructor Craig Deer. "All of them had strong technical and academic skills. What set Jason apart was that he had perfect attendance both semesters. That's impressive when you attend college full time and also hold down a full-time welding job. He's very dedicated."
The Rhinelander resident recently graduated with a welding technical diploma. He plans to continue in his position as a welder at Northland Stainless in Tomahawk, where he was hired while a student.
"For me, learning about all the things that I didn't even know were out there was the most interesting part," said Sheltrown, who was nearly a straight-A student. "It's a great program. I can't say enough about it. We had a great team and great instructors."
