Amanda and Matthew Wendt, who were born and raised in Rhinelander, are the proud parents of Felix Dean Wendt who was born Jan. 1 at 7:58 a.m.
"His middle name was Matt's dad's middle name as well so that name has a lot of meaning but his first name - we were looking through names and I'm more into the abnormal names and (Matt's) more into the supernormal names and it was the only name that we could agree on," Amanda said with a laugh.
Little Felix weighed 8 pounds, 9.8 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long.
"We're very excited to have him, it seems like forever since we found out I was pregnant so we're very excited that he's finally here," Amanda said.
The happy couple was surprised by the amount of hair Felix was born with.
"I can't get over his hair," Amanda said. "And the heartburn was crazy, I was popping Tums like crazy and the old wive's tale, if you have heartburn you've got a full head of hair, it proved true for us."
Matthew found it pretty cool to have another unique birthday in the family.
"I've got kind of a unique birthday so it's kind of cool to have my son have a unique birthday as mine was Oct. 13 so I turned 13 on Friday the 13th," he said.
Amanda and Matthew's parents weren't surprised that the new addition graced them with his presence on the first day of the new year.
"They were all pretty sure that it was going to happen - I've been being told for weeks that he was going to be a New Year's baby," Amanda said. "I don't think any of them were surprised and they were all pretty excited about it."
Felix's big sister, Kierra Roberts, 5, is over the moon about her baby brother.
"Ever since (Kierra) could hold babies at day care she's always been helping out so she's excited to have one at her own house," Amanda said.
Kierra is thrilled to have a little sibling to take care of. She wants to help out with everything - except changing dirty diapers.
"You want (your baby) to be happy in what he is doing and that's my biggest hope, as long as he's happy I'm happy," Amanda said.
Felix should be happy with all the doting family members he has.
"(When I was pregnant, Matt) just wanted to feel him kick once or twice before bed and then he's snoring and he's out and I'm up with a ninja in my uterus," Amanda said with a laugh.
