New promotion, updated mobile app give trail users more tools to explore Vilas County
The "Be a Vilas County Trailblazer" Sweepstakes, which runs through May 15, will offer fans an opportunity to explore Vilas County's trails via several different prize packages.
"No matter when you travel to Vilas County, you'll find four seasons of activities on our outstanding trail system," said Cindy Burzinski, director of Vilas County Tourism & Publicity. "It's a great asset for visitors, and this new promotion, as well as our updated mobile app, are great ways for us to share that message with folks coming to Vilas County."
To enter the "Be a Vilas County Trailblazer" Sweepstakes, fans can visit the Vilas County website or Facebook page and fill out the entry form for a chance to win.
Three prize winners will be selected, one in each month from March through May. Two runners-up will receive a $100 gift certificate to The Hiker Box in Eagle River and Boulder Junction's Coontail, respectively. The grand-prize winner will receive a two-night stay at Hintz's North Star Lodge in Star Lake, a $50 gift certificate to Vinchi's Hillside in Sayner and a personal fitness tracker.
Vilas County also recently launched an updated version of the "Map It Vilas County" trails app, which is available as a free download in the Apple Store.
When they're using the updated app, Vilas County trail users will be able to pinpoint where they are on a given trail with or without access to a cellular signal. The updated app also has a revamped filter system so users can sort trails by a number of criteria and find what they're looking for more easily.
The app has been downloaded more than 500 times since it launched in June.
"Our trails app has been a big success since it launched last year, and with this update, the Map It Vilas County app will be even more helpful to trail users," Burzinski said.
Visitors can find more information, including links to download the mobile app, order a copy of the free Vilas County Silent Sports Map or enter the "Be a Vilas County Trailblazer" Sweepstakes online at trails.vilas.org.
