'Letter from the Heart: The Real Story Behind the Iconic Photograph'
In 1986, an unforgettable photo was taken of Sue Massey and her husband, captured in anguish, as they watched her family's three-generation Wisconsin farm be sold off to the highest bidder in front of a sea of media.
That photo was published widely, grabbed the hearts of many and catapulted Sue and her family into the limelight. There was a huge outpouring of support to help save their farm, including Willie Nelson's Farm Aid family, country band Alabama and masses of media.
"Letter from the Heart" is her long-awaited memoir of her family's experience, where she shares the highs and lows of a family fighting their way back. And, after losing everything, how she found herself. Today, after much hard work, the Masseys have once again set down roots in the earth and own a small landscaping firm in Wisconsin.
With the publication of Sue's book, their story, once again, is receiving attention from the media, as it has a universal theme that touches people from all walks of life, the library said in a press release.
Wisconsin author Jacquelyn Mitchard captures the essence of this book: "Sue Massey's 'Letter from the Heart' is a love story - of a couple's love for each other, for their land, and for their children. It is also the story of a gallant journey to recover from a catastrophic loss. The next time you drive past a sign that offers a house and a hundred acres of land, you'll understand on the deepest level that every time a family farm fails, each of us loses a piece of our cultural home."
More information about Sue Massey and her book is available online at www.letterfromtheheart.com. Funding for this event is provided by Northern Arts Council.
Dessert and beverages will be served.
